It seems to me that a lot of people think that “me” is a low class word and “I” is a high class word. When they want to sound sophisticated they use “I” whether it’s appropriate or not. “It was a gift to my husband and I.” Really? Didn’t their teachers tell them the trick of just leaving the other person out of it? “It was a gift to I” doesn’t work so one has to use “me.”
