Why “alright” is a legitimate word and separate from “all right”:
- almighty
- almost
- alone
- already
- also
- altogether
- always
According to etymonline, every single one of these words came from adding “all” to an already existing word and shortening it. It’s gotten to the point that words like “also” and “alone” aren’t commonly recognized as coming from “all +____”.
